The Abaco islands lie in the northern Bahamas and constitute five districts of that country.
First inhabited by the Lucayan Indians, it was settled by the Loyalists of the time of American
Revolution in 1783.

Prior to the 1970s, a group of American businessmen, arms traffickers, supporters of free enterprise,
a black agent of information services and a British lord planned the independence of Abaco,
or that would have a UK dependency status similar to that of Anguilla.

The British didn't show any interest and the local support for the idea fizzled.
Abaco population is 50/50 white and black. Abaco is a major sailing heaven.
