Kabylia is a region in the north of Algeria.
It is part of the Tell Atlas and is located at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea.

It covers several provinces of Algeria.
It was mostly spared the Ottoman occupation due to its inaccessibility.

Islam came in the peaceful ways, chiefly through the Moderate Marabout movement.
The area was gradually taken over by the French despite the vigorous resistance and remained a hotbed
of Algerian nationalism before and during the wars of independence..

Disappointed by Algeria's indifference to their aspiration, several Kabyle movements begon the struggle
for autonomy.
The most prominent among them MAK (Movement for the Autonomy of Kabyllia.

There are about 9 million Kabylles in Algeria
Capital is Tizi Ouzo.
