Bioko (Fernando Po) is an island off west coast of Africa, specifically Cameroon, in the Gulf of Guinea.
It is the northernmost part of Equatorial Guinea.

Discovered in 1472 by the Portuguese navigator, it was a Spanish colony until 1968.
The indigenous population of the island are Bantu speaking Bubi people, who were the majority,
but now are outnumbered by the Krio Fernandinos and Fangs from Rio Muni.

Fighting for their rights is the movement for the Self Determination of Bioko Island.
There are about 64.000 Bubis on Bioko.
