Cape Breton Island is an island on the Atlantic coast of North America, part of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada.
The island is divided into four of Nova Scotia's eighteen counties and contains five reserves of the Mi'kmaq Nation, these being
Eskasoni, Membertou, Wagmatcook, Waycobah and Potlotek/Chapel Island.
Area: 10.311 sq km
Pop : 148.000
It was first permanently settled by the French in 1629, then ceded to Britain in 1763.
English is the primary spoken language, though Mi'kmaq, Gaelic and French are still heard.
