A federal subject (Oblast) of the Russian Federation located on the Baltic Coast and western most part of Russia,
but has no land connection with the rest of it.

Surrounded by the Baltic Sea and two EU and NATO members- Poland and Lithuania.
It used to be a Polish, Prussian and German city, a northern part of East Prussia until 1945, when it was occupied by the
Soviet Union, cleard of its orginal population and officially annexed according to the protocols of
the Potsdam conference (Stalin, Truman and Atlee).

Currently it is one of Russia's best performing economies, having a "Special Economic Zone" status.

Since 1993, there is a movement - Baltic Republican Party (Baltiyskaya Respublikanskaya Partiya)- which purpose is the establishment of an
autonomous Baltic Republic, instead of the Kaliningrad region (oblast) and, possible, independence...
The orientation of this party is generally social-liberal One of the aims of BRP is the restoration of the historical name "Konigsberg" to the city and all other places.
