The Kunama are one of the smallest ethnic groups in Eritrea.
A distinctive people with their own culutre, the groups speaks Kunama (Nilotic), a language that is unrelated
to major languages of Eritrea and Ethiopia.
Most of the estimated 107.000 Kunama live in the remote isolated area between the Gash and Setit Rivers near the border of Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian-Eritrean wars forced many Kunama to flee their homes and they are often discriminated against in Eritrea.
