The Lango ( or Jo Lango (Lango People)) live in central Uganda, north of Kyoga Lake.
They speak a Western Nilotic (Luo) language like their northern Acholi and Alur neighbours.

Lango people had a functional government before the British rule and it was elected government,
not hereditary as the case in Buganda and Bunyoro.

Since 2005, the Lango Chiefdom enjoys the official atatut of traditional institution within Uganda.
The violence of the Lord's Resistance Army ravages the area to this day.
