Oe-Kusi Ambenu / Oecussi-Ambeno
It is a district of East Timor with special status.
It is a coastal exclave in the western (Indonesian) part of the island of Timor.
The capital of the district is the town of Pante Macassar.
It was there that the Indonesian fifth column raised the Indonesian flag and took control of the exclave in November 1975,
a week before the Indonesian invasion of East Timor proper.
However, even under Indonesian rule, Oecussi-Ambeno was administered as part of the province of East Timor,
just as during Portuguese rule.
Consequently, it became part of the independent state of East Timor in May, 2002.
