Setomaa (Setumaa) is a region south of Lake Peipus, inhabited by the Seto speaking Setos. Seto language belongs to south Estonian dialect of Estonian language of Ugro-Finnic linguistic family.
The region is presently divided between Estonia and Russia. Before WWII it was located entirely within Estonia. Despite their difficult history, the Setos have kept alive their language and culture this day.
Their cultural center used to be in the town of Petseri, now Pechora, in he Pskov Oblast of Russia. Present "capital" of the Setos town of Varska in Estonia. They number about 5.000.
