Siberian Tatars are an indigenous people of the forests and steppes of South Siberia stretching from somewhat east of the Ural Mountains to the Yenisey river.
Once, members of the powerfull Siberian Khanate, they are now a tiny remnant of it. They speak a Siberian Tatar dialect of the Tatar language of the Kipchak family and are predominantly Sunni Muslims. Currently, there are 9.610 Siberian Tatars in all of Russia, mostly in Kemerovo, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Sverdlov, Tomsk and Tyumen oblasti.
