South Moluccas / Maluku Selatan
The Republic of South Moluccas was a self-proclaimed state founded on April 25, 1950.
After the occupation by the Japanese in 1945, nationalist leaders unilaterally declared Indonesian independence.
Not all regions and peoplese immediately subscribed to the proclaimed Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Early organized resistance came from the South Moluccas.
The South Moluccans initially clung to the post-colonial treaty prescribing a federal form of the statehood.
When that treaty between the Dutch and ghe Indonesian government was broken they in turn declared a fully independent
Republic of South Moluccas hoping to achive an autonomous state.
It was defeated by the Indonesian forces and the government-in-exile was formed in the Netherlands which functions to this day.
Since 1999 there is a new organization operating inside Moluccas-Maluka Sovereignty Front.Note that this flag has another version which you can find in this [link]
